There is an abstraction within the human consciousness, lying just beyond perception. A single point shattering light into a rainbow that will forever remain hidden. Some turn to this and call it god, others call it love. There are the rare few where these aforementioned elements are interchangeable. It is the basis of desire – to please and to be pleased – but some love is unrequited and the gods have lost themselves in omniscience, mutilating their ability to form an answer.

Duality does not always exist. There is darkness without the stars and stars without the dark, creating defined lines of black and white. These lines can be cut into squares and arranged into an eight-by-eight grid. Horses will demolish castles and the individuals holding the pieces will smile, for they have escaped their prison through intellect. Acuity without sentiment is complete blackness and a brittle wall built of numbers and algorithms. Upon its destruction the intelligentsia will discover that they have never felt the sun. The others that have no wish to escape the darkness call themselves poets and artists. The light-dwellers will find the irony of being blinded but will nonetheless go through life with smiles only they know is full.

Duality must exist. It is the parachute that allows oneself to plunge safely into the abstraction. None knows what may lay beyond, as it is more shrouded in mystery than death. It is, however, fundamental to being human. With the ever-increasing capacity for knowledge and means of production, we must not forget our compassion.

Why did God create a dual universe?
So that he might say: “Be not like me, for I am alone.”
    And it might be heard.
